Online & Mobile Banking Security

  • Use multiple usernames and passwords for all your online accounts. Keep the ones for your banking separate from the social networks and shopping sites.
  • Don’t create PIN and computer passwords that include easily accessible personal information, such as birth date, middle name, spouse's or child's name, mother's maiden name, address, or consecutive numbers. Instead, use something unique that only you know.
  • Always “sign out” or “log off” of websites when finished to prevent unauthorized access. Simply closing the browser window may not actually end your session.
  • Don't buy anything online using your credit card from a site that doesn't have SSL (secure socket layer) encryption. You will know if the site has SSL because the URL for the site will start with https:// (instead of http://)
  • Always verify the URL (website) before entering passwords or other personal information, credit card number, account number, etc.
  • Check your last login date/time every time you log on to banking websites.
  • Never leave the computer unattended while using your online banking.
  • Update the virus protection software on your PC regularly. Keep your computer operating system, your internet browser and your mobile device software up to date with the latest security patches. Scan your computer often for all types of virus including those that could be used to capture keystrokes
  • Erase/delete your browser's cache and your browsing history after each session, or on a periodic basis, so that any account information and browsing history are removed
  • When your online banking is complete, log out before closing the browser.

Card Security

  • Never write your PIN on your Debit card or Credit card. Memorize your PIN.
  • Never disclose your Personal Identification Number (PIN) to anyone
  • Match your credit card receipts, SMS alerts, etc., against the transactions performed and report unusual/unauthorized transactions/charges immediately.
  • Change your PINs and passwords as often as you can. Do not use the same PIN for all your cards.
  • When using your card at an ATM check if additional device is attached on the card reader slot or keypad when entering your PIN while using an ATM
  • Never hurry when using an ATM. Make sure you are not distracted, intimidated or rushed into your transaction.
  • Monitor your transactions.
  • Do not share your card with anyone, including your family. Opt for additional cards for your family members. NBQ offers these free of charge on our Personal Accounts.
  • If the card is lost, report immediately to the bank to prevent unauthorized usage.

Personal Security

  • If you receive an email asking for personal information, do not hit the reply button or click on any link in the email.
  • Don’t give personal information over the phone, through the mail or on the Internet, unless you know whom you are dealing with and preferably only if you’ve initiated the contact.
  • Do not use automatic login feature of the browser that saves user names and passwords.
  • Do not open email attachments received from unknown sources or if the subject line or email itself looks suspicious or unexpected.
  • Do not download software from unknown or untrusted websites unless you are sure it is safe.
  • Never login to your bank website through a URL link in an email, even if the email appears to have come from your bank. Type the web address into your browser yourself.
  • Avoid using public computers or public wireless access points for online banking and other activities involving sensitive information when possible.
  • Never perform banking transactions while multiple browsers are open on your computer.
  • Do not leave your Internet banking session unattended at any time.
  • Do not download or open executable programs received via email
  • Make sure that file extensions are viewable
  • Never respond to spam email
