Cheque Book Security

  • Always Keep your cheque book in a safe location. Never sign a cheque unless you are using it immediately.
  • Clearly write the complete payee’s name and amount in words and figures, ensuring that extra space/gap is crossed out.
  • Use your own pen to write and sign cheques.
  • Don't pre-sign any blank cheques.
  • Always keep a track of cheques that issued and realized.

Online & Mobile Banking Security

  • Periodically change your online banking passwords using NBQ Online Banking Portal or by using Mobile Banking Applications.
  • Use multiple usernames and passwords for all your online accounts. Keep the ones for your banking separate from the social networks and shopping sites.
  • Don’t create PIN and computer passwords that include easily accessible personal information, such as birth date, middle name, spouse's or child's name, mother's maiden name, address, or consecutive numbers. Instead, use something unique that only you know.
  • Always “sign out” or “log off” of websites when finished to prevent unauthorized access. Simply closing the browser window may not actually end your session.
  • Don't buy anything online using your credit card from a site that doesn't have SSL (secure socket layer) encryption. You will know if the site has SSL because the URL for the site will start with https:// (instead of http://)
  • Always verify the URL (website) before entering passwords or other personal information, credit card number, account number, etc.
  • Check your last login date/time every time you log on to banking websites.
  • Never leave the computer unattended while using your online banking.
  • Update the virus protection software on your PC regularly. Keep your computer operating system, your internet browser and your mobile device software up to date with the latest security patches. Scan your computer often for all types of virus including those that could be used to capture keystrokes
  • Erase/delete your browser's cache and your browsing history after each session, or on a periodic basis, so that any account information and browsing history are removed
  • When your online banking is complete, log out before closing the browser.

Card Security

  • Periodically change your credit/ debit card PIN using our banking channels (Call Center, ATM and IVR). Please always enter your PIN securely while transacting.
  • Never write your PIN on your Debit card or Credit card. Memorize your PIN.
  • Never disclose your Personal Identification Number (PIN) to anyone
  • Match your credit card receipts, SMS alerts, etc., against the transactions performed and report unusual/unauthorized transactions/charges immediately.
  • Change your PINs and passwords as often as you can. Do not use the same PIN for all your cards.
  • When using your card at an ATM check if additional device is attached on the card reader slot or keypad when entering your PIN while using an ATM
  • Never hurry when using an ATM. Make sure you are not distracted, intimidated or rushed into your transaction.
  • Monitor your transactions.
  • Do not share your card with anyone, including your family. Opt for additional cards for your family members. NBQ offers these free of charge on our Personal Accounts.
  • If the card is lost, report immediately to the bank to prevent unauthorized usage.

Personal Security

  • If you receive an email asking for personal information, do not hit the reply button or click on any link in the email.
  • Don’t give personal information over the phone, through the mail or on the Internet, unless you know whom you are dealing with and preferably only if you’ve initiated the contact. If you receive a call requesting your security credentials and if the call comes from a mobile number, it is most likely a Fraud.
  • Do not use automatic login feature of the browser that saves user names and passwords.
  • Do not open email attachments received from unknown sources or if the subject line or email itself looks suspicious or unexpected.
  • Do not download software from unknown or untrusted websites unless you are sure it is safe.
  • Never login to your bank website through a URL link in an email, even if the email appears to have come from your bank. Type the web address into your browser yourself.
  • Avoid using public computers or public wireless access points for online banking and other activities involving sensitive information when possible.
  • Never perform banking transactions while multiple browsers are open on your computer.
  • Do not leave your Internet banking session unattended at any time.
  • Do not download or open executable programs received via email
  • Make sure that file extensions are viewable
  • Never respond to spam email
  • Update your latest and valid personal details to the bank regularly to ensure correct correspondence.
  • Inform the bank about your travel plan to avoid any inconvenience during overseas travel
  • NBQ supports strong two factor authentication mechanisms like VbV and OTP for ecommerce transactions, use these authentication options for shopping online
  • Review your order confirmations, credit card, and bank statements as soon as you receive them to make sure that you are being charged only for transactions you made. Immediately report any irregularities.

Security Tips

  • Be wary of doing financial transactions based on emails/ phone calls. The caller could be a fraudster trying to victimize you for impersonation fraud. Always contact the beneficiaries through their official communication channels to confirm the authenticity of the email or call before transferring the fund.
  • Do not provide any cash incentive to NBQ sales staff. NBQ sales staff are not authorized to receive cash from customers.
  • NBQ is committed to protecting your personal information.
  • Other than for verification purpose NBQ call center staff will not ask you for your personal or financial information 
  • NBQ staff/law enforcement authorities will Never ask for your password, One-Time Password (OTP), PIN, or Access Credentials. Please note that the bank is not responsible for your financial losses due to sharing any information with any party.
  • The NBQ website will not ask you to enter any of your security details, except on NBQ Online banking webpage that can be accessed directly from the home page of our website, www.nbq.ae
  • If you receive a suspicious email or SMS (text) message, or any other suspicious message that claims to be from NBQ, or if you have any reason to believe that you may have been the victim of a phishing scam or your account with NBQ has been used fraudulently, Please call us immediately on (00971)600565656 or /and send an email to nbq@nbq.ae
